I don’t like running on the treadmill, but I recognize the value of doing something rather than nothing and the cold is really daunting these days. So this morning I headed up the single flight of stairs to my gym and gave the treadmill a try for the first time in a while. Rather than just doing a straight run, I figured I’d use some of the added features of the treadmill and did a hill interval work out. I hit snooze a few too many times (when did this start?!) to get in the full hour run that I wanted, but a 30 minute hill interval proved to be a good workout. Left hamstring is feeling a bit iffy, so I’m going to have to get back to being serious about my stretching and strengthening.

Time: 30:00
Distance: 2.18 mi
Workout: Hill Interval
Level: 6 (increased speed for part)

hasn’t really included runs longer than 6mi, my goal was just to finish feeling good. At some point during the race, while I was feeling good, Iupped the ante to make my goal “finish without walking.” Success! I kept a steady, slowish pace throughout the entire race, with its rolling hills, and didn’t have to stop to walk or get water at all (I had my fuel belt and the chill in the air reduced the need for water). I’m hoping this will kick off my training for the NYC Half, coming up on March 21.
