Picking up my NYC Half Stuff, 3/18/2010

With the 2010 NYC Half Marathon just three days away, Yael and I ran down the Westside Greenway to Chelsea Piers, then headed east to Metropolitan Pavilion, where this year’s expo was housed. The weather was terrific and it was a great run. The expo was nice, with local vendors and other race sponsors. I think the 20% coupon from Super Runners is going to come in handy.

If you’re coming out to cheer on Sunday, I’ve got bib # 6580.

Break in the wicked weather; Central Park 8-miler, 3/15/2010

We’ve had a couple days of extreme weather here, with major storms over the weekend. Today has been overcast with occasional drizzles and a few cloud bursts, but we managed to get out for a run this morning when only the ground was wet. Central Park is on tree-damage alert and the crews were out making sure that those trees still standing are in good shape.  Went for a longer, 8+ miles, run since the NYC Half is only six days away.

Yawn… Early morning Riverside Run, 3/9/2010

Got up early for a good morning run along Riverside. The sun is finally up at the beginning of these early runs, so it makes it a bit easier to get moving.

Sunday Two-Parter: Coogan’s 5K and run back

This morning was NYRR’s Coogan’s Salsa, Blues and Shamrocks 5K in Washington Heights, running up and down Ft. Washington Ave. from 173rd St to Ft. Tryon Park and back. It’s a fun race, with musicians lining the route. It has some solid hills on the route so it can be a challenging 5K. I ran most of the first two miles with Stacey and my friend Ben, who we bumped into in the starting corral.  I also got to see Erica heading into the park as I was coming out and then saw her cross the finish line.

RUN BACK

A group of us arranged to run back from Washington Heights, a route of about 4.5 miles along the Hudson River Greenway. Once we managed to get down from the Heights to the Greenway, we had a nice easy run down. It was a bit windy, but sunny and pretty warm…and mostly empty, which is nice on the more narrow Greenway.

Quick Evening Riverside Run, 3/5/2010

Stacey and I went for a quick run, pre-Shabbat dinner, on Friday afternoon along the Riverside waterfront path. It was pretty windy and we kept a fairly strong pace, so it felt like a good workout. We also threw in some additional hillwork, which you can get a bit of in Riverside by varying the route.

Quick morning run in Riverside, 3/1/2010

I took advantage of the nice weather and took a quick/short run in Riverside Park. The warm (40s) day meant that the build up of snow from last week’s storms was melting, leaving most of the roadway wet, but not slippery or icy.

Hamantaschen Run, 2/28/2010

Ended the month with a nice 5mi run in Central Park (north loop) with Stacey. The park looked very pretty with the fresh snow on all of the fields, but the roadways were almost completely clear and dry. We headed straight from the park to Shaare Zedek for megillah reading, so my running gear served as a costume of sorts. Interesting to be putting on tefillin immediately post-run.

Three weeks until the NYC Half!

Quick afternoon run in Riverside, 2/24/2010

The rain let up a bit today, and it was a bit warmer, so I was able to take my running outside. I slept in a bit more than intended and had some things to take care of so I didn’t hit the road until 4pm. I did a quick run in Riverside, using my old ~3 mile route (95th St entrance down to the water down to Pier I and back, adding in the little hill at the 72nd St track). It was a sold and pretty fast run and I felt good.

Rainy days :-(

After every nice, sunny, warmish day, the weather has a way of reminding us that it’s still winter. It is pretty rainy this morning. While I’m not averse to running in the rain, it is February and running in the cold rain is neither fun nor the safest thing (at least in my book). I hit the treadmill this morning, using a manual program, and through in a some grade increases (e.g. fake hill work).

Starting the week off right

After some snow and other reasons/excuses not to go for a run, I pushed myself out the door this morning to try to start this week off right. I had a good run, doing a loop of the park. It was cold, but not too cold and I was well dressed for it. I hope this can start a positive trend. Four weeks until the NYC Half, just under thirty-seven weeks until the ING NYC Marathon.
