Hamantaschen Run, 2/28/2010

Ended the month with a nice 5mi run in Central Park (north loop) with Stacey. The park looked very pretty with the fresh snow on all of the fields, but the roadways were almost completely clear and dry. We headed straight from the park to Shaare Zedek for megillah reading, so my running gear served as a costume of sorts. Interesting to be putting on tefillin immediately post-run.

Quick afternoon run in Riverside, 2/24/2010

The rain let up a bit today, and it was a bit warmer, so I was able to take my running outside. I slept in a bit more than intended and had some things to take care of so I didn’t hit the road until 4pm. I did a quick run in Riverside, using my old ~3 mile route (95th St entrance down to the water down to Pier I and back, adding in the little hill at the 72nd St track). It was a sold and pretty fast run and I felt good.

Rainy days :-(

After every nice, sunny, warmish day, the weather has a way of reminding us that it’s still winter. It is pretty rainy this morning. While I’m not averse to running in the rain, it is February and running in the cold rain is neither fun nor the safest thing (at least in my book). I hit the treadmill this morning, using a manual program, and through in a some grade increases (e.g. fake hill work).

Starting the week off right

After some snow and other reasons/excuses not to go for a run, I pushed myself out the door this morning to try to start this week off right. I had a good run, doing a loop of the park. It was cold, but not too cold and I was well dressed for it. I hope this can start a positive trend. Four weeks until the NYC Half, just under thirty-seven weeks until the ING NYC Marathon.

Treadmill in the Morning, 2/09/2010

I don’t like running on the treadmill, but I recognize the value of doing something rather than nothing and the cold is really daunting these days. So this morning I headed up the single flight of stairs to my gym and gave the treadmill a try for the first time in a while. Rather than just doing a straight run, I figured I’d use some of the added features of the treadmill and did a hill interval work out. I hit snooze a few too many times (when did this start?!) to get in the full hour run that I wanted, but a 30 minute hill interval proved to be a good workout. Left hamstring is feeling a bit iffy, so I’m going to have to get back to being serious about my stretching and strengthening.

Another nice day! Afternoon RP Run, 01/16/2010

I took advantage of another good weather day and went for a short run in Riverside Park.  Hopefully I’m getting enough mileage under my feet to safely finish the Manhattan Half next Sunday.

Pre-Shabbat Run: Central Park Loop, 01/15/2010

Had a pretty good weather day today, so I took advantage and went for a jacket-less run. Also tried out one of my new pairs of tights – travesty!  The fit is all wrong so these tights are definitely benched from any future long runs.

Damn, it’s cold! Riverside Park morning ~4 miles, 1/13/10

Went for a run in Riverside Park early this morning with Stacey. Unfortunately last night’s “Real Feel” forecast for those hours was a bit optimistic and it was/felt really cold. Despite that, we got in a good ~4 miles.

Big Runs on Tap for 2010

I just received my acceptance into the 2010 NYC Half Marathon, a race I’ve run the last two years. At this point, I am signed up for two half-marathons and will be registering for the 2010 ING NYC Marathon once regular entry opens in a few weeks.  I’m also already signed up for a handful of shorter races with the NYRR.

Morning Central Park 5mi Run, 01/07/2010

It’s been pretty cold most days this morning, particularly with wind-chill factored in, so I haven’t been getting out as I’d hoped. But yesterday was a bit warmer, so I headed to Central Park – the walk there is the toughest part, particularly in the cold – and had a really good run on the northern 5 mile loop. I chose that route to make sure I hit the hills. I’ll need to spend some time improving my hill work over the next few months.
