Morning ride in CP, 6/8/2010

I got out for two laps of the CP loop this morning on my bike this morning. This probably qualifies as my first training ride of the season, and I hope to get out more regularly so that I’ll be in proper shape to take on the century route during the Hazon ride over Labor Day. If you’d like to support my participation in the Ride, please visit http://hazon.kintera.org/2010nyride/mmelzer.

Evening Central Park Run, 5/15/2010

Stacey and I went for a nice 5 mile run this evening in Central Park, taking the north loop. It was a good run and we finished really strong up the incline at 94th.

Morning Potomac Run, 4/10/2010

I went for a really nice run yesterday morning, partly along the Potomac and then through other parts of DC.  I started at the M Street bridge over Rock Creek Pkwy and headed south and east along the river. I briefly crossed into Virginia over the Arlington Memorial Bridge (behind the Lincoln Memorial) and then continued past Lincoln onto the Mall. I looped around the Washington Memorial and headed up towards the White House. I ran past the White House and then up Pennsylvania Avenue, back to where we were staying. It was the morning of the Cherry Blossom festival and parade, but luckily I was out before the parade so I could cross over Constitution Avenue without trouble.

Afternoon Easy Run with Michal, 4/1/2010

Michal and I went for a nice easy run along the Bergen County bike path. We mixed in some walking with the run, but it was a nice day and some good exercise.

NYC Half Marathon, 3/21/2010

I ran my third NYC Half Marathon yesterday. On the whole, it was a good day and a good run. The weather was Marc after NYC Half '10perfect: sunny, cloudless, just under 60 degrees. I was able to pace myself very well over the first few miles and was feeling good. The Harlem Hills took a lot out of me, though, and I was feeling pretty low energy at that point. After about 9.5 miles, just before the turn onto the West Side Highway, I stopped for some Gatorade and was feeling pretty lightheaded. I decided, after Friday’s sick day, that it was best for me to take it easy, so I walked the next ~2.5 miles, fueling up and getting ready to run out the end. I felt good approaching the 12 mile marker and ran out the last mile well. Another year, another missed PR, but one of these days 🙂

Picking up my NYC Half Stuff, 3/18/2010

With the 2010 NYC Half Marathon just three days away, Yael and I ran down the Westside Greenway to Chelsea Piers, then headed east to Metropolitan Pavilion, where this year’s expo was housed. The weather was terrific and it was a great run. The expo was nice, with local vendors and other race sponsors. I think the 20% coupon from Super Runners is going to come in handy.

If you’re coming out to cheer on Sunday, I’ve got bib # 6580.

Break in the wicked weather; Central Park 8-miler, 3/15/2010

We’ve had a couple days of extreme weather here, with major storms over the weekend. Today has been overcast with occasional drizzles and a few cloud bursts, but we managed to get out for a run this morning when only the ground was wet. Central Park is on tree-damage alert and the crews were out making sure that those trees still standing are in good shape.  Went for a longer, 8+ miles, run since the NYC Half is only six days away.

Yawn… Early morning Riverside Run, 3/9/2010

Got up early for a good morning run along Riverside. The sun is finally up at the beginning of these early runs, so it makes it a bit easier to get moving.

Quick Evening Riverside Run, 3/5/2010

Stacey and I went for a quick run, pre-Shabbat dinner, on Friday afternoon along the Riverside waterfront path. It was pretty windy and we kept a fairly strong pace, so it felt like a good workout. We also threw in some additional hillwork, which you can get a bit of in Riverside by varying the route.

Quick morning run in Riverside, 3/1/2010

I took advantage of the nice weather and took a quick/short run in Riverside Park. The warm (40s) day meant that the build up of snow from last week’s storms was melting, leaving most of the roadway wet, but not slippery or icy.
