285 days and counting…

Screen shot of my marathon registration confirmation

I’m all signed up and the countdown begins for my first ING NYC Marathon run – November 7, 2010. After some overnight knee pain, I am mostly recovered from yesterday morning’s half-marathon in Central Park. My goal is to draw a line from yesterday to November 7 to put in a strong performance based on a solid training foundation.

Slow and steady finishes the race (without walking!) – Race: NYRR Manhattan Half, 01/24/2010

Today I ran the first of what I hope will be several half-marathon races this year. Given my training of late, which hasn’t really included runs longer than 6mi, my goal was just to finish feeling good. At some point during the race, while I was feeling good, Iupped the ante to make my goal “finish without walking.” Success! I kept a steady, slowish pace throughout the entire race, with its rolling hills, and didn’t have to stop to walk or get water at all (I had my fuel belt and the chill in the air reduced the need for water). I’m hoping this will kick off my training for the NYC Half, coming up on March 21.

Another nice day! Afternoon RP Run, 01/16/2010

I took advantage of another good weather day and went for a short run in Riverside Park.  Hopefully I’m getting enough mileage under my feet to safely finish the Manhattan Half next Sunday.

Pre-Shabbat Run: Central Park Loop, 01/15/2010

Had a pretty good weather day today, so I took advantage and went for a jacket-less run. Also tried out one of my new pairs of tights – travesty!  The fit is all wrong so these tights are definitely benched from any future long runs.

Damn, it’s cold! Riverside Park morning ~4 miles, 1/13/10

Went for a run in Riverside Park early this morning with Stacey. Unfortunately last night’s “Real Feel” forecast for those hours was a bit optimistic and it was/felt really cold. Despite that, we got in a good ~4 miles.

Big Runs on Tap for 2010

I just received my acceptance into the 2010 NYC Half Marathon, a race I’ve run the last two years. At this point, I am signed up for two half-marathons and will be registering for the 2010 ING NYC Marathon once regular entry opens in a few weeks.  I’m also already signed up for a handful of shorter races with the NYRR.

Morning Central Park 5mi Run, 01/07/2010

It’s been pretty cold most days this morning, particularly with wind-chill factored in, so I haven’t been getting out as I’d hoped. But yesterday was a bit warmer, so I headed to Central Park – the walk there is the toughest part, particularly in the cold – and had a really good run on the northern 5 mile loop. I chose that route to make sure I hit the hills. I’ll need to spend some time improving my hill work over the next few months.

New Year’s Day Run: ~3mi, Riverside Park

Took advantage of the relatively mild NYD weather to get in a brisk 3 mile run in Riverside Park at dusk. The path wasn’t completely clear, but there were a number of other runners out. It was a good way to kick this year’s running into gear.

Welcome!

Welcome to my running blog! I’m hoping to use this blog in the coming year(s) to keep me psyched and on-task in my running and training. In 2010, I am planning to run the NYC Half Marathon (pending lottery) for my third time and, for the first time, the ING NYC Marathon in November. I’m also planning to complete NYRR’s 9+1 program to guarantee myself an entry to the 2011 NYC Marathon.
